October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and there is an easy way to take action: Ask your congressional representative to support the reauthorization of the International Violence Against Women Act, which was reintroduced in the House and Senate in March.
The act enhances efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence by increasing legal protections, victims’ access to health care and opportunities for women around the world. The ELCA, concerned with the life and dignity of God’s good creation, recognizes that violence against women is a prevalent and critical problem in modern society. Nearly 1 in 3 women are expected to experience gender-based violence in their lifetime.
Your voice, as a person of faith and a leader in your community, can have a positive effect. Learn more about this legislation from ELCA Advocacy and urge your representatives to support the act through the ELCA Advocacy Action Center.
