Today we are sharing five prompts to inspire you during your personal spiritual time so you can set your intentions for the week ahead. Take a moment to reflect on the following and journal your thoughts.

  1. Scripture: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming; and now it is already in the world” (1 John 4:1-3).
  2. Prayer Venture for Independence Day: “Give thanks for the freedom and abundance we enjoy in our country, and ask God to help us exercise generosity in our national life, addressing root causes of the poverty, hunger, injustice, racism and lack of opportunity our neighbors experience on a daily basis.”
  3. Prayer from Bread for the Day“Wise One, you know we are inclined to mistake lies for truth and evil for good. By your Holy Spirit, help us measure the claims of unholy voices against your grace proclaimed in Jesus.”
  4. Journal prompt: In this season of my life, what does it look like to deepen my faith? Who in my life can support me as I grow?
  5. Hymn: “Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus” (ELW, 802).
