Today we are sharing a few Labor Day prompts to inspire you during your personal spiritual time so you can set your intentions for the week ahead. Take a moment to reflect on the following and journal your thoughts.

Prayer Ventures for Labor Day
Recognize and pray for the work people do to sustain their families and benefit their communities and society. Pray that all will receive fair wages, work in safe environments, be renewed through times of sabbath, and experience joy and fulfillment in their labor. Pray for those who seek employment and for the care, support and well-being of people unable to work.

Scripture
“Whatever task you must do, work as if your soul depends on it, as for the Lord and not for humans,  since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward” (Colossians 3:23-24).

Journal prompt
Every September, ELCA congregations nationwide participate in “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday. What does it mean to you to do God’s work with your own hands?

Affirmation
When I labor and contribute to my community, I create positive change for myself and others. God is with me in my work.

Table Prayer for Autumn, from Bread For the Day
We praise you and bless you, O God,
For bright autumn days
and for the gifts of this table.
Grant us grace to share your goodness
and to trust that there is more than enough for all of your people,
Through Jesus Christ, who is abundance and mercy. Amen

Hymn
“Alleluia! Voices Raise” (ELW 828)
