Gerald Mansholt was first elected the bishop of the ELCA Central States Synod in 2001. He was the pastor at Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kan., from 1995 until he was elected bishop. Previously, he served congregations in Florissant, Mo., and Chickasha, Okla.
